The short version

#
  • CheckMyChores is a family app. Kids do chores, take a photo as proof, and earn screen time.
  • It is an invite-only beta. Only families we invite can use it.
  • Chore photos can show your kids, other people and your home, inside and out. We keep them for 30 days after the job is finished, then delete them. A photo waiting for your review stays until you decide, and backups take up to 90 days to catch up.
  • An AI service from Anthropic checks the photos. It also powers the Coach, an AI helper that answers kids’ questions about a job. The AI can be wrong. A photo it passes is paid right away, and the jobs it isn’t sure about come to you.
  • We don’t show ads. We don’t sell data. We don’t use analytics or ad trackers.
  • You can ask us to delete one kid’s data or your whole family’s at any time: hello@checkmychores.com.

Who runs CheckMyChores

#

CheckMyChores is run by Bin Bros KC LLC. In this notice, “we” and “us” mean Bin Bros KC LLC.

Bin Bros KC LLC also runs a bin-cleaning business. CheckMyChores information isn’t used for that business or its marketing.

What we collect about your kids

#

A parent enters some of this. The app records the rest as your kids use it.

  • Name. The first name or nickname a parent enters.
  • Look. The color shown for each kid, and the board theme they pick.
  • PIN. Each kid’s 4-digit PIN, stored hashed rather than as the number itself.
  • Chore photos. The photos your kids take as proof of a job. They can show your child, other people, rooms in your home, and the outside of your house (like the house number). The app accepts JPEG photos only.
  • When a photo was taken. Proof photos are meant to be fresh. A photo whose date shows it is more than 30 minutes old is refused. If its date is unclear, a parent decides. A photo with no date at all still goes to the AI check. To read the date, the app also sends the first 128 KB of the original photo file. That part holds the time the photo was taken, and the location too if the camera saved one. Our server reads only the time from it. That part is never stored, logged or sent to anyone. We keep the time the photo was taken and how far the phone’s clock was off.
  • Location and other hidden photo data. Our server removes it from every photo before storing the photo or sending it to Anthropic. The picture itself can still show where you live.
  • A photo fingerprint. A short code worked out from each photo (a hash), and when the photo was uploaded. It lets the app spot the same photo being sent again. The fingerprint can’t be turned back into the photo.
  • What your kids type. Questions they ask the Coach, and job ideas they pitch to you.
  • Activity. Jobs claimed and finished, the AI’s notes on each photo, strikes, minutes earned, spent and banked, rewards, perks, and screen-time sessions. It also records unlock taps like “It’s on” and “Still locked”.
  • Devices. The kind of phone or tablet and browser each kid uses, the name you give a device, and when it was set up and last used. It also stores sign-in cookies, and notification settings if notifications are turned on.
  • Internet address. Our hosting provider records the IP address of every visit in its server logs. If someone types a wrong setup code, we record the IP address for 2 days to stop guessing.

We don’t ask kids for an email address or phone number, and the kid screens have no place to enter one.

4

What we collect about you (parents)

#
  • Your name and email address.
  • Your password, stored scrambled (hashed).
  • A phone number, only if you add one. We don’t use it today.
  • Your family’s name, time zone and settings (like your trash day, bank interest and alert choices). Anyone holding one of your live setup codes sees the family name on the setup screen, so share codes only with your kids.
  • The jobs, rewards, screens, rules and notes you enter. That includes notes you add when you send a job back for a redo. It also includes any link you save for a screen, like an Xbox Family Settings link.
  • If you say a job out loud instead of typing it, we get the text, not the recording (see “Who else receives data”).
  • The same device, cookie, notification and IP information described above.
  • Google sign-in is coming soon. See “Signing in with Google” below.
5

If you request an invite

#

The invite form on our website asks for:

  • your email address
  • your first name (optional)
  • how many kids you have (1, 2, 3 or 4+)
  • which screens they use (optional)
  • that you’re a parent or guardian

It also records your browser’s time zone, because the beta runs on US Central time.

To stop spam, it records your IP address and browser too. Those two are wiped after 24 hours. The form also logs the IP address and time of each try, and deletes that log after 24 hours.

We use this only to decide on invites and write to you about them. We delete it 180 days after you send it, or sooner if you ask. The form is for parents. Please don’t enter a child’s details.

6

How we use it

#
  • To run your family’s chore board, balances, bank and rewards.
  • To check chore photos, and to answer kids’ questions about a job.
  • To send alerts to you and your kids.
  • To track screen time and unlock requests.
  • To stop cheating, like old, reused or re-photographed photos.
  • To find and fix mistakes the photo checker makes, by looking at its results inside our own systems.
  • To decide on invites and write to you about them.
  • To keep the app working and safe, and to answer you when you write to us.

We don’t use it for anything else.

7

About the AI

#
  • Anthropic’s AI, Claude, checks each chore photo against the job’s checklist.
  • If a photo passes, the minutes are paid right away, without a parent looking.
  • The Feed in HQ shows recent photos. Each week HQ also shows you a few photos the AI passed on its own, so you can spot-check it. If a pass shouldn’t have paid, there’s no undo button yet. Email hello@checkmychores.com and we’ll fix the balance.
  • The AI gives borderline work the benefit of the doubt. If it can’t tell from the photo (too dark, blurry, the job cut off), your kid may get one retake, and then the job comes to you.
  • The AI can be wrong. When a job comes to you, you decide whether to approve it or send it back for a redo.
  • Strikes. If the AI thinks a photo is a picture of a screen or a printout, your kid gets a strike. The same happens if a photo was already used for another job. The first strike is a warning. After that, each strike takes 30 minutes from the kid’s wallet, unless you change the amount. You can clear strikes and give back the minutes in HQ.
  • The Coach is an AI helper, powered by the same AI. It answers kids’ questions about one job, and it is told to stay on that job. The kid screens call it a computer helper, not a person, and it is told to say it is an AI if anyone asks.

Who else receives data

#
Companies that receive data from CheckMyChores
WhoWhat they getWhy
Anthropic (AI)Chore photos, with location and hidden photo data removed. The job’s title and checklist. Your kid’s Coach questions and answers, including your redo notes for that job. The job’s title and details when the AI writes a checklist (when you ask it to, or when you accept a job your kid pitched).Photo checks, the Coach and checklists
Railway (hosting)Everything the app stores, backups, and server logs (IP address, browser, pages visited, error messages).Runs our servers and database
Apple, Google, Mozilla and Microsoft (push services)The device’s push address and when a notification is sent. The message itself is encrypted, so they can’t read it.Deliver notifications
Twilio (text messages)Text alerts for one family only: the family of Bin Bros KC LLC’s owner, who tests the app. Those texts include kids’ first names, job titles, screen names and one-tap unlock links. No other family’s information is sent to Twilio.Text alerts
Squarespace and Mailgun (email forwarding), Google (our mailbox)Emails you send to hello@checkmychores.com.Support
Google (Google sign-in, coming soon)That you signed in to CheckMyChores.Sign-in only

What Anthropic keeps. Anthropic receives this from our server, not from your child’s device. We don’t send your child’s name, account or IP address on purpose. Anything written in a job title or typed to the Coach is sent as written. Anything that shows in a photo, like a name written on homework or a house number, reaches Anthropic as part of the photo. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, Anthropic may not train its models on this data. Anthropic deletes it within 30 days of receiving it. If Anthropic’s safety systems flag something, it can keep it for up to 2 years (and its safety scores for up to 7 years).

Saying a job out loud. If you tap the microphone on the Post screen, your browser turns your voice into text with its own speech service. Chrome, for example, uses Google’s. That company’s terms apply. We receive only the text.

Xbox links. For an Xbox, the Unlock screen can open Microsoft’s Xbox Family Settings on your phone. Our server sends Microsoft nothing. Microsoft’s own privacy notice covers what you do there.

9

What we don’t do

#
  • No ads.
  • We don’t sell or rent your data.
  • No analytics or ad trackers on app.checkmychores.com. Our fonts and code come from our own server.
  • We don’t use your family’s photos or chats to train AI.
  • We don’t use invited families’ photos to test or tune the app. We test the photo checker with a small set of photos from our owner’s own family. We keep those for testing, and each test sends them to Anthropic.
  • The beta costs nothing. We don’t take payment details.
10

Who can see your data

#
  • The people who run CheckMyChores can technically access everything in the database, including photos. Today that is one person, the owner of Bin Bros KC LLC. We look only when we need to run, fix or support the app, or when you ask.
  • Railway’s and Anthropic’s staff may be able to access data under their own policies.
11

What deletion can’t reach right away

#

When we delete something, it is gone from the app at once. Some copies take longer:

  • Backups are replaced within 90 days.
  • Server logs expire within 30 days.
  • Anthropic’s copy is deleted within 30 days of receipt, or kept up to 2 years if its safety systems flagged it (its safety scores up to 7 years).
  • Texts already sent (our owner’s family only) stay with Twilio under its own retention.
  • Your devices. Notifications that already arrived stay on the phone until they are cleared. We can’t reach screenshots.
  • Email you send us stays in our mailbox until we delete it.
13

Your choices and rights

#

You can:

  • See your family’s data. HQ shows jobs, recent photos (the Feed), balances and the weekly wrap-up. Email us for anything else, like the Coach chats.
  • Fix it. Email us to correct a name or other details.
  • Delete one kid’s data, or your whole family’s. Email hello@checkmychores.com from the address on your parent account. We’ll reply to that address to confirm before we delete anything. We finish within 7 days of your confirmation and tell you when it’s done. If you only asked for an invite, email us from the address you used.
  • Stop further collection. Stop using the app, unpair a kid’s device in HQ Settings, turn off notifications, or ask us to switch off a kid’s sign-in. Nothing more is collected from a kid who isn’t using the app. Their daily jobs still appear on the board until you remove those jobs or ask us to switch the kid off.
14

Cookies and storage on your devices

#

We use only what the app needs:

  • sign-in cookies for kids (180 days) and parents (30 days)
  • a cookie that marks a phone or tablet paired to your family (up to 400 days)
  • settings your browser remembers for how things look, like light or dark mode

There are no advertising or analytics cookies.

15

Security

#
  • Connections use HTTPS.
  • PINs and passwords are stored hashed, and setup codes are stored as keyed hashes.
  • The app reaches its database over our hosting provider’s private network.
  • Every sign-in is checked against the database on each request, so an unpaired device or a removed person loses access at once.
  • No system is perfect. If something goes wrong that affects your family, we will tell you.
16

Signing in with Google (coming soon)

#

Google sign-in isn’t turned on yet. When it is, and you choose it, Google tells us your Google account ID, name and email address. We use them only to sign you in. We don’t get your Google password or access to your Gmail, contacts or files. We don’t keep Google’s access tokens.

We may add other sign-in options later. We will update this notice first.

17

Kids and the beta

#
  • Families join by invitation, and a parent decides what to enter about each kid. Kids can’t sign up on their own.
  • During the beta, we set up your kids, their PINs and your screens with you. That means we see each PIN when we set it.
  • The Coach your kids see is an AI helper, not a person, and the kid screens tell them so.
  • Please ask your kids to photograph the chore, not people.
18

When the beta ends

#

Before the beta ends, we will tell you what is changing. We will ask you to agree again, or we will delete your family’s data. We won’t move your family into anything paid, or charge you, without asking first.

19

Changes to this notice

#

If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will tell parents in the app before the change takes effect. Where the law requires, we will ask again. Each version has a number and a date.
